Drawing On The Right Side of the Brain
Just got a brush pen (first ever) so thought I would give it a wee shot and see what ti was like. I think with some, a lot, of practice it will be very nice. I was working from two copies of the picture. A large low quality one and a smaller sharper one.
Today eyes. Tomorrow lips? The eyes at the top re anohr attmp at Lovecraft’s eyes. Still need to practice more.
Today I just doodled. About the only good thing to say is that it is slightly less bad than my earlier sketches.
A vast improvement.

Negative space exercises. Found using the viewfinder very annoying. Not helped by me cutting it out to the wrong size.

To I original source. The blind contour drawing. Followed by the modified contour drawing. Not brilliant but better. I seem to be doing the contour drawing better.

Neither of these were official exercises. I was just getting some practice in at doodling as quickly as humanly possible. With pen so there was not chance to undo my mistakes. At least it kept me busy.
Modified Contour Drawing
Well at least this time it is an actual contour drawing as opposed to whatever I was doing before. Time to do all the contour drawing exercises again.
This was meant to be a contour drawing but after watching some instructional videos on Youtube I see that I have been doing contour drawing in totally the wrong way. I eventually gave up as I just felt the whole thing getting away from me.
I am only putting this up as I said to myself I would put everything up, like it or not.I only spent a brief amount of time on it and my model refused to sit still for 20 minutes. Even as a rough sketch I would need to learn more about drawing just so I could understand how awful it is. Museum of Bad Art here I come :)
